The primary goal of this collaborative project between ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles) and VUB (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) was to design a dynamic space that raises awareness and inspires different age groups through demonstrations and prototypes.
This ambitious AI-driven project draws inspiration from space exploration, echoing the futuristic world of 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick. The architectural layout has been completely reimagined to establish a seamless visual connection between the ground floor and the upper level. Expansive, futuristically designed glass openings enhance the proportions of the space and amplify the sense of openness. These forms take inspiration from existing railings, which have been carefully restored after years of being hidden behind polycarbonate panels.
At the heart of the space, the original staircase has been preserved and boldly transformed with an intense red finish, extending from floor to ceiling. This daring design choice, complemented by powerful contemporary lighting, turns a simple passageway into an immersive sensory experience. Here, red is more than just a color—it infuses the space with energy and dynamism. For the brief moment of ascent, visitors are transported to another dimension.
The stainless steel kitchen embodies the sleek aesthetics of a spacecraft, while the dining table, with its bold organic curves, feels like a sculptural piece emerging from an extraterrestrial world—an artistic creation inspired by cosmic nature.
